Shakespeare Under the Stars in Townsville, NQ, now in its 17th Season, is proudly the longest running, regional event of its kind.

Each year, weather permitting, local actors within the Townsville community work with visiting professionals over a 6 week rehearsal period to mount a 2 week season of Shakespeare. Many venues have been used over the years:

• The Gardens within JCU Vincent Campus
• Echlin St Quarry
• Kissing Point on the Strand
• Panorama House on Castle Hill
• Queens Gardens where it remains today.

Pre-booked dinners are served during the interval at front row dining tables while general admission is seated in the auditorium grandstand, giving everyone a spectacular view of the garden stage.

We highly encourage everyone to pre-book your tickets to avoid disappoint. A bar operates on site and light refreshments are available. BYO Alcohol is not permitted, however feel free to bring along your own snacks or picnic dinner.

Over the years, volunteers have ensured the success of this event. From managing Front of House, running the bar, assisting with sound & lighting.

Shakespeare Under The Stars can truly be said to be Townsville’s Community Event and has twice won Production of the Year at the Townsville City Council Arts Awards.
